Welcome Village Academy Knights! My name is Lorraine Canales and my goal is to provide a comprehensive counseling program for all students. The counseling department is committed to creating life-long learners by identifying personal interests, developing pertinent skills and abilities, researching colleges and career assessments and promoting personal and social development.
All students will develop an educational 4-year plan to prepare for long-range educational goals. In doing so, they will develop academic planning skills for access and success in higher education, through understanding the A-G courses needed for admissions to the variety of four-year colleges and universities, community colleges, vocational and technical schools and the military branches. Additional outcomes include full knowledge of the standardized admission test(s), financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and the need to develop essential employable skills and work habits. Students will also be exposed to a variety of out-of-state and in-state college fairs. Beginning in the 9th grade, all students will have an opportunity to attend college workshops and be exposed to motivational speakers to help enhance their understanding of a successful transition from high school to postsecondary education or employment.
My goal is to promote and maintain a safe-learning environment in the interests of continually improving school climate and students’ well being. This would include collaborating and coordinating with community resources to provide support services to students’ academic, career, personal, and social development. Additionally, implementing and developing communication with parents via parent workshops and parent conferences to better serve the students immediate and long-range educational plans.
All students, parents and community advocates can contact me by calling the Guidance Office at 397-4900 ext. 2682 or via my email Lorraine.email@example.com - if you are unable to contact me, please leave a message with Lydia Nunez ext. 2680.
I am excited to begin this new journey at Village Academy; my goal is to teach all students that, “There are two educations. One should teach us how to make a living and the other how to live.” John Adams.
