Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! We are so grateful that we have an opportunity to serve our returning students, and we are even more excited to welcome our new students at Village Academy! The first day of the 2023-24 school year will begin Monday, August 14, 2023.

We value building positive relationships with our students and community. We prioritize our school campus safety and ask that you review the parent-student-community handbook. We are fortunate to be the BEST high school in Pomona! We are committed to our school mission to prepare a community of learners who demonstrate high academic achievement to be college and career ready. We provide opportunities for every student to gain the knowledge and skills needed to function as morally, ethically, and socially responsible members of the community at large.

Albert Tan, Assistant Principal at Village Academy, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Southern California in 2000.  He has served at Village Academy since 2019 and has worked as an administrator at both Fremont Academy and Pantera Elementary school for seven years.  Prior to his move into school administration, he was both a teacher of mathematics and the AVID coordinator at Garey High school for six years.

Mr. Tan attended the University of Michigan, graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Bachelors of Science, and went on to work in nuclear electricity generation before transitioning to the field of education with a Master’s degree in Education from Claremont Graduate University.

Whether through success or failure, Mr. Tan enjoys that critical moment when learning occurs, and growth takes root in the minds of everyone with the capacity to learn.  He is purpose-driven to provide support for everyone who walks through the hallways of knowledge.

Ali Avila has been the office manager at Village Academy High School since 2017 and has worked for Pomona Unified School district for 16 years as of 2021.  She grew up in Pomona and attended Westmont Elementary School, Fremont Middle School, Garey High School and Cal Poly Pomona.  Ali has served as a board member of the Latino organization, LEAP (Latino Educational Association of Pomona) since 2017.  The organization promotes educational opportunities for Latino/Latina students, while developing the mindset that’s focused on success for students in the Pomona Unified School District.  LEAP’s mission is to mentor and empower Latino/Latina students through educational and cultural opportunities while creating programs that promote academia.  Her professional passion is to help students see the value of cultural heritage.  In her free time Ali enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.
