Dear Village Academy Knights Family,
Welcome to a new year in a whole new world! I am honored and excited to serve as Village Academy’s new principal! I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know more of our community. I am enthusiastic about the caring, dedicated, and supportive students and staff with whom I have connected.
Although I am new to Village Academy, I have been in Pomona Unified for 16 years. I have been a middle school and high school English, ELD, and French teacher, an assistant principal, and this year commences my 8th year as a principal.
As an immigrant and an English Learner, I feel passionately about equity and access for all students. I went to college determined to become a teacher. I attended Mt. St. Mary's University in Los Angeles, California, where I majored in Liberal Studies and minored in French. I earned a Master's degree in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) at the University of Southern California in order to support English Learners and I earned a doctorate in education at the University of Southern California to prepare for my role as a school leader. I firmly believe in the power of belief, effort, and collaboration. I look forward to supporting the transition of Palomares Academy into our school at the close of this year. While we are at this time, 2 schools, 1 community, I am eager to grow and support our community of excellence!

Mr. Tan attended the University of Michigan, graduated with a Mechanical Engineering Bachelors of Science, and went on to work in nuclear electricity generation before transitioning to the field of education with a Master’s degree in Education from Claremont Graduate University.
Whether through success or failure, Mr. Tan enjoys that critical moment when learning occurs, and growth takes root in the minds of everyone with the capacity to learn. He is purpose-driven to provide support for everyone who walks through the hallways of knowledge.
